Alan Lightman has a PhD in theoretical physics.  He now teaches in the humanities.  We will be reading another piece by him, an except from the novel, Einstein’s Dreams.  Lightman wrote this essay in 2002.  Some of the technologies he uses as examples are now dated.  Switch the words around in your head to the current technologies when you read this.  Don’t let the older technologies keep you from getting his point.

For this discussion, talk about the Lightman article and your reaction to it.  What is his thesis?  How does he support his thesis?  What is your reaction to this essay?  Could you relate to what he was saying?
