Section to be written: Implications for the Counseling Profession (both clinical ?counseling/therapy? and future direction for research)
Title of my paper: Schizophrenia Treatment Adherence Medication versus Therapy
Implications for the counseling profession.
A minimum of two paragraphs addressing the implications of the answer to your question for professionals in the field (of Marriage and Family Therapy)
1) The first hypothesis is that medication alone is not effective for treating individuals with schizophrenia. The research neither supported nor refuted the hypothesis that medication alone is not effective for treating individuals with schizophrenia. Although the research found that psychotropic medicaiton reduced positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia, finding concluded that medication non adherence was a significant issues that individuals with schizophrenia often resort to; due to medicaiton side effects, and/or cost constraints
2) The second hypothesis is that that having to be forced to choose between psychotropic medication and therapy, therapy would be the most effective for treating individuals with schizophrenia and who have low SES. The research supported the hypothesis that having to choose between medications and therapy because of cost constraints, therapy would be the most effective between medication for treating individuals with schizophrenia and who have low SES. The finding were significant because they showed long lasting effects using therapeutic intervention. However the researchers did not account for therapeutic non-adherence.
Future directions for research
Based on findings 1 and 2 above.
What additional studies are needed? What aspects should be investigated? Are there different methods that should be used? What would be the next question asked?
